Asking Questions

As you will learn in French, there are 4 ways to ask questions.
Here is a little guide to help you learn how to ask them.

1. Using 'Est-ce que' (Results a yes/no answer)
'Est-ce que' always goes at the beginning of your question.
It is then follow by the subject pronoun, such as: je, tu, elle, etc.
Then it is followed by the rest of the statment.

Examples:
Est-ce que tu manges beaucoup? (do you eat a lot? [informal])
Est-ce que vous chantez? (do you sing? [formal])

When your subjuct pronoun begins with a vowel however you convert que into qu' + subject pronoun.

Est-ce qu'elle mange beaucoup? (does she eat a lot?) 2. Using 'n'est pas'(used when the answer will most likely be 'yes') In English it is equivalent to, for example: You speak French, right? It is also always placed at the end of the statment. *n'est pas never changes. Examples: Tu parle français n'est pas? Vous parlez français n'est pas? 3. Raise you voise. Simple as it sounds. Examples: Tu aime? (you like?) Tes amies? (your friends?) 4. Using inversion To use inversion you invert or reverse the subject with the pronoun and put a dash between the two. When the pronoun begins with a vowel you ad "t- + Noun" Examples: Parlez-vous français? (do you speak french? [formal]) Parle-t-il français? (does he speak french?)
